Overview

Welcome to the documentation for Quest Map Pro for Unreal Engine 5.

Last updated 1 year ago

Quest Map Pro is a fully-featured Unreal Engine 5 blueprint solution aimed at giving you the ability to help your player navigate around the world within your game. Including a versatile world map, mini map, compass, and secondary systems to support them, Quest Map Pro is built off the back of 6 years of support and feedback from the Quest Map and Navigation System (now known as ). Created with a completely new methodology, this new system is not only more feature-rich and versatile, but extends the feature set well beyond double that of its predecessor.

Feature Overview Videos

Features

Version 1.5 of Quest Map Pro comes with a huge swathe of features, including:

  • A fully-featured world map and mini map able to display landmarks, points of interest, quest markers (both main and side quests), waypoints, NPCs/enemies, other players and more

  • A dynamic compass that displays markers for nearby objects, such as landmarks, NPCs, etc. as well as providing the ability to convey information to the player regarding their location, nearby hidden objects, and so on.

  • World markers that can easily be customized to suit your needs

  • On screen and in-world indicators for waypoints and quests

  • A quest trail to lead your player to their objective, utilizing Unreal Engine's navigation mesh (simplified a* pathfinding variant coming soon for large open worlds where using a navmesh may not be appropriate - see the public for more details)

  • Dynamic world fog for maps, allowing the player to see where they have been and for you to limit them from seeing what they shouldn't know yet

  • Player Placed Notes, giving your players a way to label parts of the world in their map

  • An example user interface, showing you just how easy it is to set up the map, mini map and compass in your own HUD and menus - its almost drag and drop!

  • A basic fast travel framework allowing players to instantly travel back to places they have already "discovered"

  • Unrestricted map resolution - using a specialised solution for dynamically loading grids of the map on-the-fly as required. Get the best quality map without the huge memory footprint!

  • An extensive set of parameters to tweak and customise the system to your heart's content

  • Clear, readable and well-documented blueprints to assist in extension, comprehension and learning

  • And much more!

Questions

What does Quest Map Pro not do?

Its a map and navigation system that handles waypoints, quest markers, landmarks and so on. But there are, of course, things that Quest Map Pro does not do. It is not a ready-to-release game, its not a game template, and it is also not a quest manager. Quest Map Pro is designed to be plugged into your project, or to be connected up with other systems from the marketplace, to assist you in development. There is a bunch of example content, including an extremely rudimentary example quest line, included with the pack, but you should expect to need to fill in those gaps with your own systems or ones provided by other marketplace packages.

How much work is required to integrate Quest Map Pro into my project?

That really is going to depend on your project and how you have designed it! However, in most cases it should be a simple and pain-free process to get things up and running. if you are unsure or worried about the task, please feel free to check out the integration tutorial before purchase so you know what you are in for!

Why should I buy Quest Map Pro instead of the cheaper Quest Map Classic?

Quest Map Classic was, and is, a great little system that was built for a specific use case. As such, it has a number of hard coded limitations and quirks that have been somewhat problematic for a number of users over its lifetime. Quest Map Pro was built from the ground up to address these specific issues, as well as many others, while also providing a much larger set of features. The end result of this is that Quest Map Pro is a above and beyond a better product. That said, Quest Map Classic is still available, should it be all that you require.

I already bought Quest Map Classic. Can I have a discount?
Can you make a version of Quest Map Pro for Unreal Engine 4?

While there is nothing in Quest Map Pro that specifically requires UE5, it has been built with it in mind and an entire rebuild would be required for support for Unreal Engine 4, as well as extensive testing. If you absolutely need it for UE4, I'd recommend taking a look through the UE5 version and rebuilding what you need in your project, as unfortunately there is no native downgrade solution available in the engine.

Do you have plans for additional features for Quest Map Pro?

Sure do! But please - don't buy based on future plans. If the current feature set is not what you need, wait! Everything listed in the roadmap is planned to be added at some point, but given how game development is, I cannot guarantee that there won't be some sort of roadblock, nor can I make any sort of promise of a timeframe for a specific feature to make it to the public branch. If you would - feel free like to check out the public roadmap to see what is, hopefully, in store for the future of Quest Map Pro. You can also see a list of previous additions and updates to guage the sort of cadence and regularity with which these things have been added in the past.

I have additional questions / How can I get support for Quest Map Pro?

Unfortunately Epic Games do not have a system in place to allow for discounts on the marketplace outside of scheduled sales. That said, if you purchased Quest Map Classic between September 2022 and January 2023 I understand it could be a bit frustrating to have purchased one system to effectively have it replaced by a better one, so please feel free to reach out to me and we can discuss some options.

If this documentation is not detailed enough, you need additional clarification or you just have something specific to your situation, you have a couple of options. You can join the - and there is absolutely no need to verify your purchase through a review or question on the marketplace. Additionally, there is video versions of a lot of this documentation available via the . Finally, if all those options are not to your liking, or you would just prefer a more direct line of communication for any reason, you can reach out via .
